NCDOT GEOLOGIST RICK LOCHAMY IDENTIFYING POINTS ON THE MAP TO TAKE CORE ROCK SAMPLES, SPRINKLE CREEK.

Once he finds the points on the map he locates them on the ground. Then he drills to various depths and takes rock samples with a hollow stem auger, which give the engineers and contractors information they can use to place their bids. “It’s hard to believe,” Lockamy says, “that if we were standing in this spot seven years from now we would get flattened by a tractor-trailer.”
