The
New Road:
I-26 and the Footprints of Progress |
The
New Road: I-26 and the Footprints of Progress is the story
of evolution within a rural community. The book and exhibit
provide an intimate, long-term look at the social, cultural,
and environmental impact of the I-26 Corridor as it cuts
through Madison County, North Carolina, and attempt to
further the dialogue around such issues. Photographs,
oral history, narrative essays, journal entries, statistics,
emails, letters to the editor, and print articles are
intertwined in the project. This multi-faceted approach
is utilized to best understand the complexity of issues
and to give voice to the diverse opinions about the road
and its impact.
The New Road: I-26 and the Footprints of Progress
will be published in Spring, 2009, by the Center for American
Places and the University of Georgia Press. The exhibit
and accompanying lecture are available.
